ZIKA Virus

Should I go to a Zika area? ( click link to find out the current Zika area)

To Pregnant women:  DON'T GO!!!

To everyone else (male and female (who are post menopausal or on the "pill"))

The same mosquitos that carry Zika also carry Chikungunya and Dengue fever.

While visiting Zika area, live in an air conditioned hotel with walls sprayed with residual insecticide, long sleeves and slacks (preferably cotton so they don't dissolve with the DEET being applied every 1 1/2 hours to collars and cuffs), broad brimmed (Tilley) hat with DEET on the brim  (every 1 1/2 hours), move slowly so you don't pump out so much CArbon dioxide (attracts mosquitoes), light colored clothing, depending on the location and wind, burn the outdoor repellant lamps if possible;
Wear condoms so no one else becomes high risk. ( It is possible to transmit Zika sexually)

Finally, the main reason you are doing all this is to prevent Dengue and Chikungunya which, unlike Zika (for the most part), can REALLY make you sick.

Newly released!  Canadian Guidelines on the prevention and treatment of Zika Virus infections.
